WRAP Launches Gate Fee Survey

WRAP has launched its ninth annual study investigating gate fees paid at waste treatment facilities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This year, results will also be available for London.

According to WRAP, the study into gate fees aims to increase transparency in the waste treatment market by ensuring that local authorities are better informed on the market prices for different services. The report provides information that they hope will improve the efficiency of the procurement and provision of these waste management services.

WRAP has commissioned consultancy firm Anthesis to deliver this year’s gate fees survey, which is being carried out as part of the study. The online survey addresses the key questions regarding gate fees at facilities used by local authorities. There are three different surveys for different roles in the waste management industry. They cover:

All three surveys are now available online, and participants wanting to take part have until Thursday 31st December 2015 to do so. All information received through the survey is aggregated and responses are therefore confidential. Once the study is complete, those that participated will receive a detailed market intelligence report, which provides more detail than is given in a public briefing.

The annual gate fees study is undertaken on behalf of WRAP, WRAP Cymru, WRAP Northern Ireland, and Zero Waste Scotland, and has the support of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, The Welsh Government, The Welsh Local Government Association, the Department for the Environment (Northern Ireland), LARAC, Resource London and the Organics Recycling Group (ORG) of the REA.
