A group of waste sector organisations including CIWM, Incpen, Wrap and others are to host a series of webinars on the upcoming Resources and Waste consultations.
Major government consultations are expected imminently on UK-wide packaging Extended Producer Responsibility, a Deposit Return Scheme for beverage containers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and an England consultation on Consistency in Household and Business Recycling Collections.
This will be the second round of consultations to be released, after several delays have been faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit. The legislation is expected to change from 2023 and is likely to see the waste and resources sector facing huge change, particularly from the introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility.
The free webinars will help to give stakeholders across the industry an opportunity to gain an overview of the various sections open to consultation, and an understanding of what input would be valuable.
Charlotte Briggs, Policy and Engagement Lead at Clarity Environmental, stressed the importance of stakeholders attending.
“For anyone currently impacted by the resources and waste legislation, responding to the second round of consultations is essential.
“We encourage our packaging compliance members to attend these webinars, in addition to the support and guidance they will be receiving from our team. An early understanding of the consultation will be useful in preparing individual responses but will also allow an early understanding of how EPR, DRS and Consistency in Collections will change the compliance landscape.”
