Collection data for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) for Q2 has now been published by the Environment Agency. The annual total target for WEEE collection set by BIS for 2015 is 506,878 tonnes. By the end of June the figures show 254,260 tonnes had been collected, so it looks like this target will be met. The 2015 target is about 16,000 tonnes higher than the total amount of household WEEE collected and recorded as evidence on the Settlement Centre in 2014. It is also higher than the collection levels necessary to achieve the UK Member State target of 484,661 tonnes for 2015.
Our Recycle with Clarity partnerships are making a contribution to meeting these targets. We have a UK wide network of partner sites offering an alternative to civic amenity sites which are not always local to residents. Our partners range from Approved Authorised Treatment Facilities (AATFs) to local ‘man with a van’ clearance specialists.
Vikkie Fitzgerald, Clarity Project Manager said:
“As the UK continues to show it is likely to meet or exceed its annual recycling target for electrical waste, I’m also pleased to report smooth sailing for the Recycle with Clarity sites in the first two quarters of 2015. Matching collections to our members’ obligations can be a tricky business, and I am always grateful for the hard-working, transparent and honest approach taken by our partner sites, when it comes to collecting tonnage on behalf of our scheme producer members. As we come to the end of quarter three, our compliance scheme members can rest safe in the knowledge that we have their obligations covered for this compliance period and beyond. Clarity welcomed several new members over the summer months, and alongside that we have secured the material recycling needed to ensure 2016 will be a busy year for me and all of our team working within the WEEE division.”
