Making a Commitment to Our Team: The Living Wage

We are pleased to announce that we have signed up to the Living Wage campaign in Brighton and Hove.

Launched in 2012 and run by the Brighton Chamber, the Brighton & Hove Living Wage Campaign aims to encourage local businesses to voluntarily pay all employees a decent hourly rate.

The living wage is set independently and updated annually. It is calculated according to the real cost of living, ensuring that workers are paid the amount of money they realistically need to live in Brighton and Hove.

We are extremely proud of our dedicated team at Clarity. They are our most important asset and we will always put them first. By joining the campaign, we have confirmed our commitment to pay everyone who works, or who comes to work at Clarity, a minimum hourly wage, which is currently set at £8.75. This is higher than the £7.50 per hour statutory minimum for over 25s that was introduced in April 2017.

David Adams, Managing Director of Clarity Environmental, said:

“Brighton and Hove is a vibrant, exciting and thriving city and we are lucky to be based here, but we are acutely aware that it is also an expensive place to live. Committing to paying a realistic wage, that ensures people can live rather than just survive, is just one way we can show our teams that they are valued. As our business grows it also ensures that we can attract and retain professional and motivated people. Having happy staff that stay with us benefits not only our business, but also our customers.”

We are delighted to join the campaign which not only confirms our own commitment, but also shows our support for the Living Wage, which we hope will help to encourage others to join.

The Living Wage is calculated annually to reflect the cost of living in the UK and applies to all staff over 18 who regularly work at the business.
