Clarity Puppy Prepares to Transform a Life

Our partnership with UK charity, Canine Partners, will see us donate £20,000 over the next four years, with the sponsorship of our own Clarity puppy, Claro, who will help transform the life of someone with a physical disability.

Canine Partners provides assistance dogs to those with physical disabilities, such as Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy or spinal injuries. Claro will be trained to help a future companion with everyday tasks that are difficult, painful or impossible for someone with a disability, such as opening and closing doors, unloading the washing machine, pressing buttons and fetching help in an emergency.

A black Labrador cross Golden Retriever, Claro was born on 31 July 2018 and is currently living with one of the charity’s dedicated and experienced volunteer puppy parents. He is learning basic obedience and how to walk nicely on a lead in the garden, as well as getting used to toileting on command.

Claro will stay with his puppy parent until he is around 14 to 18 months old. After this period, he will go to the Canine Partners Training Centre to learn advanced tasks. He will be assessed to ensure he has all the required skills to become a Canine Partners assistance dog, before going to live with a companion, providing the gift of independence to someone with a disability.

We are delighted to be receiving regular updates on Claro’s progress. At 20 weeks old, Jane Grant of Canine Partners said that he is getting on very well and showing typical behaviours for a puppy of his age. “Claro is a sweet cuddly black Labrador puppy”, she said. “A little shy at first, he is now growing in confidence in the home and when exploring his local village.”

Jane adds that Claro is “travelling well in the car, he is very sociable with people and very happy to go towards them for a stroke and a fuss. He is also very keen to play games in the garden.”

Our partnership with Canine Partners will support Claro right through to his retirement. Once fully trained, he will be carefully matched with an adult who has a disability, receiving many months of training to help with their needs and lifestyle.

David Honcoop, Managing Director at Clarity Environmental, said “We are so pleased to be supporting this charity that provides independence to those that could otherwise feel isolated. We are really enjoying receiving news on Claro as he progresses through his training.

“Our partnership with Canine Partners supports our mission to help improve lives, protect nature and make the environment around us a better place to live. We are proud to have donated £40,000 to a range of good causes this year and we look forward to sharing more news on our charity partnerships for 2019.”
