Clarity Environmental Welcomes New Draft WEEE Regulations

Clarity Environmental has welcomed the proposed new WEEE Regulations published by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) on Friday, 11 October 2013.

Draft regulations have been published and stakeholders have until 1 November 2013 to provide further comment. The new system will come into force on 1 January 2014.

David Adams, Managing Director of Clarity Environmental, said of the proposals:

“We are reviewing the changes in detail and what they mean for both our compliance scheme and also for our members. We are updating our members and will personally contact any that will be directly affected by the proposals.

“We welcome the draft regulations and the common sense approach to WEEE compliance, with the removal of the requirement for viable plans and the ability to use a different small mixed WEEE category to offset an obligation within categories 2 – 9. We also support a 5 tonne de minimis, which will reduce the administrative burden for small producers.

“The new regulations will undoubtedly bring about changes to the way WEEE compliance schemes operate. But we see this as an opportunity for our business, as well as for our WEEE compliance members. We will continue to grow and develop our membership scheme and will adapt our business to work with the system as it changes.”
