Clarity Environmental has signed a contract with Cleansing Service Group (CSG) for a new battery packing hub, opening up new business areas for both companies.
Operated by waste solution specialists, Cleansing Service Group (CSG), the new hub in Middlesbrough joins Clarity Environmental’s current network located in the Midlands and the South East.
Clarity Environmental operates export routes for lead acid batteries to smelters across Europe. Batteries pass through packing hubs in the UK where quality control procedures are carried out before the batteries are palletised and exported to the European smelters under TFS regulations. Once the batteries are reprocessed, the lead is recovered and used in the manufacture of new Johnson Control VARTA automotive batteries.
Managing Director of Clarity Environmental, David Adams, said: “We’re delighted to be working with CSG on this new hub. This is a strategic move that makes both financial and ecological sense. Bringing the packing closer to the source, we can offer a faster and more efficient service to our customers in the north of the country and reduce our carbon footprint by cutting travel time.
“This hub is part of our long-term plans as it ensures we can increase our current battery export capacity. But it will also enable us to move into other business areas, as we will use the hub to source, collect and bale other recyclable material, something we are looking to extend across the country.”
Neil Richards, CSG managing director said: “The partnership with Clarity enables CSG to take its business in a new direction by linking its hazardous waste treatment and recovery expertise with Clarity’s experience of the battery, WEEE and recyclate market. It is a market CSG has not traditionally operated in but, as one of the UK’s leading waste management specialists, it is one in which we are looking forward to entering and working closely with Clarity.”
